Seminars on ancient topography and landscape archaeology

The cycle of Seminars on ancient topography and landscape archaeology for the 2025-26 academic year continues, with a new event organized by Rodolfo Brancato.

The meeting will host Annarita Doronzio, from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Annarita Doronzio will present the results of the renewed research at the site of Policoro, one of the most important archaeological contexts of Magna Graecia, connected with the ancient cities of Siris and Herakleia. Located on the Ionian coast of Basilicata, near the Sinni valley, Policoro occupies an area of outstanding historical and topographical significance, crucial for the study of settlement dynamics, ancient landscapes, and transformations between the Greek and Roman periods. The lecture is entitled “«Nessun luogo è bello, né desiderabile né gradito quanto quello attorno al fiume Siris.» Nuove ricerche a Policoro”.

The talk will be held entirely remotely on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The event also features the participation of the SSBA (Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Archeologici Napoli).
