Seminar on ancient topography and landscape archaeology

The Seminars in Ancient Topography and Landscape Archaeology of the cycle for the academic year 2024-25 offer an important opportunity to explore the interactions between man and the environment in antiquity. The event, entirely curated by Rodolfo Brancato, Bianca Ferrara and Vittorio Saldutti, will consist of two complementary lectures:

  • The Polis Project: Man and the Environment in Classical Greece
by Prof. Lugi M. Caliò (University of Catania), who will offer an in-depth analysis of the socio-environmental dynamics that contributed to the formation and development of the poleis of Greece in the classical age.
  • Between Sea and Land: Corinthian Colonies in the Adriatic and Ionian Areas
by Prof. Gian Michele Gerogiannis (University of Catania), who will explore the settlement patterns and the cultural and territorial interactions that characterised the Corinthian colonies in the Mediterranean.
